“Nothing Really Matters”
Alex Lloyd and the Pigram Brothers
[from the soundtrack Mad Bastards]
“The highlight of Mad Bastards is its music” Corey Hiscocks, College movie review USA
“Nothing Really Matters” is the first single to be released [digital only] from the outstanding soundtrack to the film Mad Bastards.
Penned by Alex Lloyd and Alan and Stephen Pigram [Pigram Brothers] this poignant track features in the film Mad Bastards, which opens in cinemas nationally on May 5th.
Mad Bastards first created a stir at its sell-out ‘World Premiere’ on January 18th at the Sydney Festival, and then again with rave reviews from its International debut at the Sundance Film Festival a week later. Written and directed by Brendan Fletcher, the movie’s soundtrack plays a starring role. Perhaps it was the years that Fletcher spent shooting high-profile music videos for various Australian artists [Kasey Chambers, Alex Lloyd, Sarah Blasko and Kev Carmody’s “Cannot Buy My Soul”] that gave him the inspiration to give the movie such a musical soul.
“He (Brendan Fletcher) built the story around their music, enlisting Alan and Stephen Pigram as well as singer-songwriter Alex Lloyd. Played on guitar, mandolin and even spoons at one point, with the musicians frequently appearing in the film, the score and songs range from rootsy blues to calypso to foot-stomping country. That musical connective thread ties gracefully into the narrative.” David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter USA
¬Multi ARIA Award winning Alex Lloyd spent extensive periods of time in the Kimberley region of Western Australia writing songs with home-grown musical legends the Pigram Brothers. The result is a sparse, raw, yet rich album of songs that brings both artists into the spotlight. “It was working with Al and Stephen [Pigram] that I realised just how much less is more”, says Alex Lloyd. “Nothing Really Matters” is one of those tracks that ‘gets’ you instantly.
The soundtrack “Mad Bastards” will be released nationally and online by MGM on April 8th.
“Nothing Really Matters” is out on iTunes now.
