G'day!

The annual South By Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas is rapidly approaching and this year Australian music will have its largest presence ever! Australian music also made a strong showing at the Folk Alliance Intl Conference in Memphis in February and will be front and centre at wide range of high profile North American music conferences and festivals in 2010 including Musexpo, Canadian Music Week, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Americana Festival, CMJ Music Marathon, and more. Aussie artists are understanding the benefits of the valuable exposure in the US from these conferences/festivals and are taking full advantage of all of the opportunities that they can offer.
Best!

Artist of the Month: Violent Soho

Brisbane grunge revivalists Violent Soho who signed with legendary Sonic Youth mastermind Thurston Moore's label Ecstatic Peace/Universal in 2009 are quickly making an impact in the US! Their undeniable debut single "Jesus Stole My Girlfriend" has been embraced with open arms by US radio's Alternative and Active Rock formats, highlighed by heavy rotation at the powerhouse Los Angeles station KROQ. With a full slate of US tour dates in March and April including a stop at the SXSW music conference, Violent Soho will be release their self-titled debut album in the US on March 9th and Australia later in the month.

Philadelphia Grand Jury

Sydney's indie punk-soul duo/trio Philadelphia Grand Jury are one of Australia's most exciting bands! Best known for their ability to write catchy yet gritty pop songs, and their 'explosive' live show, they have been known to literally take to their instruments with a sledgehammer. Their self-funded 2009 debut album Hope Is For Hopers recorded by lead singer/producer Berkfinger peaked at #1 in the independent charts in Australia (where it currently sits top 5). The album has had 5 singles added to high rotation at Triple J radio in Australia and they've scored multiple sync licenses, including the major placement of their high energy garage rock track "Ready To Roll" in a national TV commercial in the US for Bally Total Fitness. Having just signed a UK deal with Beggar's singles label Too Pure for a release in May, the band will be relocating to London. In April, the Philly J's will be in Los Angeles performing at Musexpo and in New York for multiple shows.

No Guts, No Glory follows the band's 2008-released debut, Runnin Wild, which went on to sell upwards of 250,000 units worldwide and earned the band loads of critical accolades, including tours with Motorhead, Kid Rock, Motley Crue and more. No Guts. No Glory was recorded in Chicago with top producer Johnny K (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Staind). On March 8th, the band kicked off a 30 plus date European tour and then on to the US for dates with Bullet For My Valentine from late April all through May, in support of their first single "No Way But The Hard Way".
